Mission

Main tasks of INSEAN are as follows:

  • perform, promote and co-ordinate theoretical and experimental research in the field of naval hydrodynamics, even within programmes issued by the European Union and other International organizations;
  • carry out experiments with model ships and their propulsion and control systems, and any experiment that can be performed in the Institute's facilities or elsewhere, in order to meet the requests of the technical bodies of the Navy and other Government Agencies, shipbuilders and other industrial partners;
  • take part in sea trials concerning its areas of competence;
  • take care of the development and technology transfer of results of the research activities conducted on its own in co-operation with national or foreign partners;
  • establish relationships and develop co-operation with national and foreign institutions and associations operating in the field of naval architecture;
  • contribute to the education and training of the personnel operating with scientific and technical responsibilities in theabove field;
  • provide scientific and technical support to government agencies.
